On 4th June 2016 legal and industry experts reported at Midem (Cannes) on key legal developments which had a major impact on the music industry this year. The legal update was organized by the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL). Chairman of the session was Alexander Ross (Wiggin, UK).
The copyright reform in the US and the EU were top of the agenda along with an update on the new laws regulating collecting societies. The panel also considered the so called “value gap” and the question whether it can be closed by revising safe harbour legislation.
Peter Marx gave an update from the Belgian jurisdiction and reported on the recent litigation between Sabam and ID&T (Tomorrowland).
In 2017 Peter Marx will chair the yearly legal update session of IAEL at Midem.
