This Saturday 26 April is World Intellectual Property Day, and music is the theme (Check it out on WIPO’s website).
Music and copyright are close to the heart of MVVP. These days are – more than ever – challenging for copyright and music, driven by AI development. But there are also opportunities.
Music and technology have always been intertwined: invention of instruments (Adolphe Sax fought many patent wars); the development of the recording industry (which was thought to kill live music); synthesizers and electronic music (the Belgian Tomorrowland festival attracts a crowd from all over the world).
We recognise that AI can help artists in their creative process and entrepreneurship. At the same time vigorous defence against unlawful reproduction and copyright infringement are top priorities. At MVVP we embrace creativity and technology.
On the world IP day we will be merry – and tune to one of our favourite songs: Video killed the Radio Star by the Buggles.
“They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine and new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see”
