On September 20, the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL) presented a panel at the Reeperbahn Music Festival in Hamburg (Germany).
This panel, “That’s Entertainment Law – Data Protection and Privacy,” featured Marijn Kingma, Wolf-D Schoepe, Götz Schneider-Rothaar and MVVP’s Peter Marx as panelists. The panel discussed privacy and data protection in the entertainment industry.
In the age of social media, internet paparazzi, big data and terrorism, the protection of privacy and data are becoming increasingly important factors, also in the entertainment industry. With a focus on the marketing and distribution of content and the entertainment industry, in general, the panelists discussed the latest privacy and data protection issues. With the opening presentation “Privacy in the entertainment business” the term privacy was defined and it was discussed, how privacy e.g. in the press or on social platforms can be preserved from any unlawful intrusion. In addition, the panel reflected the legal framework for shooting and use of photographs in compliance with data protection laws.
